Nairobi: Gem member of Parliament, Elisha Odhiambo has hailed President William Ruto and former Prime Minister, Raila Odinga for signing a deal that will see their parties work together.
According to Kenya News Agency, speaking at Argwings Kodhek secondary school in his Gem constituency, Odhiambo said the signing of the memorandum of understanding was a significant moment for Kenya as it will address the issues that the country has faced in recent times. Odhiambo expressed confidence that the MoU would help resolve the problems related to the equitable distribution of resources. He made these remarks while joining students, teachers, and parents in celebrating the good results posted during last year’s Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education examinations.
Odhiambo noted that with the recent signing of the political cooperation deal, it was likely that President Ruto will secure a second term with minimal opposition. He highlighted that President Ruto has supported Raila in past votes, including the 2007 general elections and during the African Union Commission elections in Addis Ababa. Odhiambo expressed optimism that Raila would reciprocate this support in the 2027 elections.
He urged those skeptical of the talks between President Ruto and Raila Odinga to reconsider their stance and join efforts to ensure the country’s progress. Odhiambo mentioned witnessing ODM secretary general Edwin Sifuna signing the MoU and confirmed that the central committee had discussed and approved it.
Odhiambo also challenged Siaya governor James Orengo to clarify his position on the political pact between the ODM leader and the president, pointing out that the governor had previously sent mixed signals regarding this development.
