Vihiga county: Western Regional Commissioner (RC) Irungu Macharia has led pupils, teachers, and education officials in planting over 2,000 assorted tree seedlings and handed over another 2,000 seedlings to the local community at Chamakanga Comprehensive School in Sabatia Constituency, Vihiga County as the country marked this year’s Mazingira Day. During the occasion, Macharia urged pupils to plant trees as part of environmental conservation.
According to Kenya News Agency, Macharia emphasized the importance of youth involvement in environmental activities, urging them to grow trees as a way of mitigating climate change and combating deforestation. The initiative is part of a broader effort to address ecological challenges while engaging the community in sustainable practices.
The RC also addressed a pressing social issue by warning against early pregnancies in Vihiga County, an area that experiences significant cases of this problem. Macharia expressed concern over early marriages and pregnancies, underscoring that the government will not tolerate those who perpetuate such practices. This statement highlights the government’s commitment to addressing social issues alongside environmental efforts.
Macharia encouraged the local community to support the government’s environmental goals by actively participating in tree planting and cultivation.
