Accra:The Principal Secretary for Environment and Climate Change, Dr. Eng. Festus Ng’eno, chaired a significant meeting with Heads of Departments at the Ministry Headquarters to discuss the restructuring of projects within the State Department and to sign Performance and Productivity Contracts for the Financial Year 2026/2027.
According to Kenya News Agency, during the meeting, Tom Mirasi, Director of the Central Planning and Project Monitoring Department, presented the restructuring proposal. This proposal aims to align new projects with the State Department’s mandate and strategic priorities, focusing on environmental and climate challenges while contributing to national development.
The meeting was a follow-up to prior discussions among the Heads of Departments, which evaluated existing projects, identified overlaps and gaps, and assessed implementation progress. The goal was to streamline projects for improved efficiency and impact. Dr. Ng’eno acknowledged the progress, emphasizing that restructuring would enhance coordination, eliminate duplication, optimize resource allocation, and improve the implementation of priority interventions.
Dr. Ng’eno also reviewed the development of a Monitoring, Evaluation, Reporting, and Learning tool. This tool is designed to track project implementation and assess impact, aiming to strengthen planning, support data-driven decision-making, and promote transparency by facilitating public access to project information.
He highlighted the need for a robust, user-friendly system to monitor project progress, assess performance, and generate reports for informed decision-making. Additionally, he signed the Performance and Productivity Contracts for FY 2026/2027 with department heads to strengthen service delivery and institutional accountability.
Dr. Ng’eno expressed appreciation for the Ministry’s performance in FY 2024/2025, where it ranked among the Top Five Performing Ministries. He urged the continuation and improvement of this performance through strict implementation of performance contracts, continuous monitoring, and timely reporting.
The meeting was attended by prominent figures including Environment Secretary Dr. Selly Kimosop, Secretary for Administration Dr. John Korir, Acting Director General of KMSA Mr. Edward Muriuki, and other department heads.
