Peace Restoration Prompts Development Initiatives in North Rift

Kabarnet:Local communities in the North Rift region have been encouraged to leverage the prevailing peace for development activities aimed at improving livelihoods. Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen and Gender Cabinet Secretary Hanna Cheptumo urged residents to focus on growth opportunities as they spoke in Kabarnet town during President William Ruto’s development tour.

According to Kenya News Agency, Murkomen highlighted that a multi-sectoral approach has brought an end to the violence caused by cattle rustling and banditry, allowing residents to resume their daily activities peacefully. The Loruk and Nginyang livestock markets, previously closed due to their links to stolen animals, have reopened. Additionally, new security roads have improved access and transportation of goods and services in the region.

Murkomen noted that residents are now embracing peaceful coexistence, with children returning to school without disruptions. He emphasized that former adversaries are now interacting amicably and engaging in their daily routines as community members.

Cheptumo mirrored these sentiments, emphasizing that peace restoration has opened doors for governmental development projects in previously neglected areas. She acknowledged the hardships women and children endured due to past conflicts and commended President Ruto’s administration for the peace achieved. Cheptumo encouraged communities, particularly women, to utilize the current peace to engage in entrepreneurial ventures to enhance their economic status.

During his visit, President Ruto inaugurated several projects, including new roads, a public university, affordable housing units, markets, and the construction of Kabarnet stadium, signaling a new era of growth for the North Rift region.
