Parents Encouraged to Embrace Technical Education for Youth Empowerment

Uasin gishu: Uasin Gishu Senator Jackson Mandago has urged parents to enroll their children in Technical and Vocational Education and Training institutions after completing secondary education in order to equip them with practical skills for employment and self-reliance.

According to Kenya News Agency, during a thanksgiving ceremony held at Kapkoiga Girls Secondary School in Kesses Sub-County, Uasin Gishu County, Mandago highlighted government initiatives focused on youth empowerment through technical training and skills development. He emphasized the importance of enrolling students in Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) institutions to acquire essential skills for the job market.

Mandago warned against allowing learners to remain idle after completing secondary education, underscoring the role of technical training in securing employment opportunities or fostering self-employment. Additionally, he defended the current university funding model, designed to support students from vulnerable and low-income families, ensuring education accessibility for all.

The Senator praised President William Ruto’s administration for implementing educational reforms aimed at aligning learning with modern economic demands. He advocated for the Competency-Based Curriculum, citing its relevance in equipping learners with skills crucial for industrialization, job creation, and economic transformation.

Mandago mentioned the government’s focus on industrialization through the establishment of industrial parks and Special Economic Zones, highlighting policies intended to attract industries into the country. He stressed the importance of a modern education system in producing a skilled workforce essential for economic growth.

Furthermore, Mandago cautioned political leaders against divisive remarks that undermine national unity and addressed concerns over rising fuel prices, attributing the issue to global factors. He urged leaders to offer constructive solutions and supported the government’s decision to prioritize subsidizing productivity over consumption to stabilize the economy.
