Nairobi:Karachuonyo: More than 500 women traders from seven wards in Karachuonyo Constituency have completed training in financial management and business skills as part of an initiative aimed at empowering small and medium enterprises.
According to Kenya News Agency, the women, who came from various markets across the constituency, learned about record keeping, savings, stock management, and the importance of separating business finances from household money.
During the training session held at Ng’oche Village in Rachuonyo North Sub-County, UDA Chairman Ramadhan Abdul Odhiambo highlighted that poor management practices often lead to the failure of small businesses. He emphasized the need for traders to maintain accurate records, understand their customers and markets, and reinvest profits into their businesses rather than using all profits for household expenses.
Abdul stressed the importance of not spending beyond the business’s means, advising traders to avoid unnecessary purchases and to keep business and personal finances separate. He also encouraged the women to form organized groups to gain more training and support.
The empowerment initiative is aligned with the government’s focus on supporting small and medium-sized enterprises. Abdul noted that successful SMEs contribute to economic growth and create opportunities for local residents.
The traders expressed gratitude for the training, which introduced them to business practices they had previously overlooked. Lucy Adhiambo from Kibiri Ward shared that the training changed her approach to managing her business, emphasizing the need to save alongside reinvesting in her business. Beatrice Ojwang’ and Eunice Omuga also noted improvements in their business operations, particularly in separating finances and maintaining records to track profits.
