Vihiga: Vihiga County Governor Wilbert Khasilwa Ottichilo has commended the partnership between the County Government of Vihiga and Johns Hopkins Program for International Education in Gynecology and Obstetrics (Jhpiego), saying it has significantly improved maternal, newborn, and child healthcare services across the county.
According to Kenya News Agency, the Governor expressed his appreciation during a meeting with Dr. Allyson Bear, the President and Chief Executive Officer of Jhpiego, who paid him a courtesy call at his office. Ottichilo highlighted the collaboration through The Momentum Country and Global Leadership (MCGL) project as a key driver of the progress witnessed in the healthcare sector.
Ottichilo noted that the partnership has strengthened the capacity of healthcare workers and contributed to the reduction of maternal and child mortality in the county. He emphasized the role of various capacity-building and training programs that have enhanced the skills of healthcare workers, thereby improving healthcare outcomes.
Further, the Governor acknowledged the provision of essential medical equipment to health facilities in Vihiga County through the Jhpiego-MCGL project. This support has been instrumental in enhancing the quality and accessibility of maternal and child healthcare services.
During the visit, Dr. Allyson Bear donated additional equipment to further bolster maternal and child health services in the county. Governor Ottichilo expressed his gratitude for the continuous support and remained optimistic about the future of the partnership.
