Nyandarua County Government Prioritizes Youth Inclusion and Economic Empowerment

Nyandarua: Nyandarua County Government is focused on improving youth welfare and promoting economic empowerment, Governor Kiarie Badilisha has said. Badilisha stated that his administration has put in place plans to support young people in the county, including fast-tracking youth welfare and strengthening economic opportunities.

According to Kenya News Agency, the governor was speaking during a Thanksgiving service for Miriam Thigari, 24, who has been appointed as a member of the County Public Service Board. He emphasized the importance of including youth in leadership positions, noting their capacity to lead effectively. “The youth must be included in leadership because they have the ability and capacity to deliver,” said Badilisha.

He further stated that the county government will fast-track youth employment programmes to address rising joblessness among young people. The event, held in Tumaini area, Ol Kalou, saw the governor urging the youth not to shy away from leadership roles, promising his support. “Young people should have confidence and believe in themselves,” he added.

The appointment of Ms. Thigari was hailed by local leaders and youth, who said it reflects growing trust in young people to hold senior positions in both county and national leadership. John Maina alias Mtetesi, a youth leader from Ol Kalou, praised the governor’s initiative but expressed concern over the high number of educated yet unemployed youth in the county. “There are many educated but unemployed young people, and the two levels of government must urgently create more job opportunities,” he said, calling for faster action on youth employment.
