State to Resume Overseas Job Recruitment After Brief Hiatus

Mombasa: The Ministry of Labour and Social Protection has resumed the second phase of overseas job recruitment after a brief hiatus to monitor the escalating conflict in the Middle East and upgrade its systems. Cabinet Secretary (CS) for Labour Alfred Mutua announced the resumption, highlighting the pause as an opportunity for the Directorate of Criminal Investigations to probe cases where unsuspecting job seekers were swindled by rogue recruitment agencies exploiting the mass recruitment initiative.

According to Kenya News Agency, CS Mutua urged the youth to seize the job opportunities available globally, noting the high demand for workers in various countries. Emphasizing the need to provide young Kenyans with job opportunities rather than handouts, CS Mutua announced more than 4,000 job opportunities during a recruitment drive in Mombasa. These positions include caregivers, nurses, truck drivers, construction workers, and baristas, with no commission required.

Youth were advised to verify the accreditation of recruitment agencies by visiting the National Employment Authority website. CS Mutua cautioned job seekers to be vigilant against fraudulent recruitment agents lacking physical offices and using phone numbers registered to deceased persons. He urged job seekers to perform due diligence and report rogue agencies through the NEA toll-free number 0800522223 for swift action.

Furthermore, CS Mutua addressed the recent inter-county conflict that disrupted transport along the Mwingi-Garissa road, condemning the incidents as unacceptable. He criticized community attacks, raids, and violence, stating it is wrong for any leader to incite or justify such actions. CS Mutua called for an end to sporadic attacks across the country, emphasizing the need for peaceful coexistence among communities.
