Nyamira:Emily Nyaribo, the spouse of Nyamira County’s governor, has called on expectant mothers in the region to make regular visits to clinics as a key strategy to reduce neonatal and maternal deaths. During her visit to Kenyoro Health Centre in Nyamira North Sub County, she emphasized the critical need for pregnant women to receive close medical attention to ensure the delivery of healthy babies.
According to Kenya News Agency, Ms. Nyaribo stressed the importance of monthly prenatal clinic visits and recommended that expectant mothers undergo at least two ultrasound checks during pregnancy. These measures, she noted, help monitor the growth of the unborn child and provide crucial advice on maintaining health during this vulnerable period.
Ms. Nyaribo also highlighted the significance of a balanced diet, urging expectant mothers to consume a variety of meals to support the baby’s growth and strengthen their immunity. She advised against home births, pointing out that local health facilities are equipped with qualified personnel to manage any complications and ensure a safe delivery process.
Accompanying Ms. Nyaribo was Dr. Geoffrey Nyambuti, the medic in charge of Ekerenyo Sub County Hospital, who advised pregnant women to avoid heavy physical chores. He explained that the body undergoes numerous hormonal changes during pregnancy, making it essential to reduce physical strain and manage stress for the health of both mother and child.
Caren Ateka, the county nursing officer, pointed out that prolonged labor at home is a leading cause of fistula cases. She urged women who experience fistula during childbirth to seek immediate medical intervention at hospitals where the condition can be effectively managed.
Diana Kemunto Osinde, one of the expectant mothers, lauded the health services provided by local hospitals and expressed gratitude to the county government for expanding health facilities in rural areas, which offer excellent prenatal services and reduce travel burdens for women seeking care.
During her visit, Ms. Nyaribo also donated items such as Pampers, soap, baby clothes, and shawls to expectant mothers at the Kenyoro Health Centre’s maternity wing.
