Government Allocates Funds to Complete Kabete Technical Institute

Kabete:The government has released Sh30 million for the construction of the Karura Ka Nyungu Technical Training Institute (TTI) in Kabete Constituency. An additional Sh40 million is expected to be disbursed to complete the project.

According to Kenya News Agency, Deputy President Prof. Kithure Kindiki inspected the ongoing construction and stated that the additional funding will ensure the facility’s completion, providing local access to technical and mid-level training. This initiative aims to enhance technical and vocational education for young people, equipping them with essential skills for employment and entrepreneurship.

The project also includes a student accommodation hostel, with a capacity of 340 beds, to be built at a cost of Sh170 million. This hostel will offer nearby housing for students, reducing the need for long-distance travel to find accommodation.

Prof. Kindiki emphasized the government’s commitment to expanding technical training as part of broader efforts to support Kenya’s industrialization and economic growth. He noted that the government was also improving student accommodations to create a supportive learning environment and prevent distractions like alcohol and drug abuse.

During the inspection, Prof. Kindiki was accompanied by several officials, including Kiambu Women Representative Anne Wamuratha, Kabete MP Githua Wamachukuru, and other local leaders. The initiative is part of a national effort to expand technical and vocational education, which has seen enrolment in TVET institutions increase significantly.

Prof. Kindiki reported that student enrolment in these institutions has grown from 297,000 in 2022 to 718,000 currently. The government has also constructed 23,000 classrooms and 1,600 science laboratories nationwide to further enhance educational access.

The completion of the Karura Ka Nyungu TTI is expected to provide an important training facility for youth in Kabete and surrounding areas, supporting national development by preparing young people for the labor market. Prof. Kindiki reiterated the government’s commitment to fulfilling its development promises, focusing on expanding opportunities through education and training investments.
