NGAOs Mobilizes Youths For Skills Training in Technical Institutions

Kisii: The State Department for Technical, Vocational Education and Training (TVET) has joined forces with the National Government Administration Officers (NGAOs) to encourage young people from rural areas to enroll in technical institutions and acquire employment skills. This initiative aims to enhance the employability of youths by providing them with vocational training.

According to Kenya News Agency, TVET Principal Secretary Dr. Esther Muoria highlighted the goal of mobilizing two million youths from grassroots levels to enroll in TVET programs across the country. Dr. Muoria spoke during a sensitization forum with administration officers at the Kisii National Polytechnic, emphasizing the collaboration between the State Departments for TVET and Internal Security and National Administration, following a directive from the President to have a significant number of youths engage in technical education.

Dr. Muoria pointed out that local administrators are crucial in reaching out to young individuals, including those from marginalized areas, to guide them towards enrolling in TVET courses at nearby institutions. She also mentioned the Department’s cooperation with accredited local and international recruiters, including cruise ships, to ensure that TVET graduates are connected with job opportunities.

Further, Dr. Muoria stated that international experiences would equip the youth with advanced expertise, enhancing Kenya’s competitiveness in expanding industries and attracting investors. She stressed the importance of having a skilled workforce to support industrial growth and production in Kenya.

The forum, which aimed to strategize on mobilizing the youth, included participation from administrators in Kisii and Nyamira counties, led by Kisii County Commissioner James Kamau, among others.
