Konuong’a: Konuong’a location in Rachuonyo South Sub-County yesterday welcomed a new administrator following the inauguration of George Okombo Obuya as the area chief. The ceremony, held at the Konuong’a Chief’s camp in Kasipul division, was presided over by Rachuonyo South Deputy County Commissioner Sylvester Mwangulu. It was attended by members of the sub-county security team, representatives from the office of the area Member of Parliament, chiefs and assistant chiefs, village elders, clergy, and other community members.
According to Kenya News Agency, Mwangulu congratulated Obuya on his appointment and urged him to serve residents diligently while upholding the Constitution and the rule of law. He emphasized the importance of the role, stating, “Your appointment comes with great responsibility. I urge you to serve the people diligently, fairly and in accordance with the law.”
The Deputy County Commissioner highlighted the government’s commitment to improving service delivery through the creation, gazettement, and operationalisation of new administrative units within the sub-county. He called on residents and local leaders to work closely with government administrators to ensure the new administrative structures translate into better services for the community.
Security was also a key focus during the ceremony, with Mwangulu urging government agencies, local leaders, and residents to collaborate in combating insecurity and maintaining peace in the area. “Security is a shared responsibility. Government agencies, leaders and members of the community must work together to ensure that incidents of insecurity are brought to an end,” he said.
Mwangulu further encouraged eligible residents to register for national identification cards and as voters, emphasizing the importance of these processes for full participation in national affairs and development. “We must ensure that every eligible resident has a national identity card and is registered as a voter. No one should be left behind,” he said.
Leaders present congratulated Chief Obuya and challenged him to engage closely with residents and other stakeholders in addressing local challenges and promoting development. Village elders also expressed their approval of the new administration and thanked the government for recognizing and supporting their role in governance. They noted that the facilitation provided to elders by the government would enable them to perform their duties more effectively and contribute to improved service delivery.
For Konuong’a residents, the new administration is expected to strengthen coordination between the national government administration and the community while improving access to government services.
