Mutingati Farmers’ Cooperative Society in Bahati, Nakuru County, received its consignment of the government’s subsidised fertilisers, with 560 bags being delivered.
The subsidised fertiliser, which is part of the national government’s initiative to ensure availability of the resource ahead of the short rainy planting season commencing next week, will see the farmers in Bahati access the commodity with ease.
Nakuru County Agriculture Chief Officer Newton Mwaura, who inspected the delivery of the 560 bags of the subsidised fertiliser, noted that the county was in the process of stocking more satellite stores across the county to ease access.
‘The programme aims to alleviate the burden of transportation of the inputs on farmers by making the fertiliser readily available and in a timely manner,’ he said.
The resident lauded the government’s move to further lower the prices of the commodity, noting a significant drop in the cost of food production.
‘We are glad that the government has continued to fulfil its promises to the people of Bahati, and soon we are going to witness stability in the cost of living as a result of reduced costs of production. It is therefore upon our people to ensure they update their records with the county and national government officials to inform further deployment of inputs for food production,’ noted Bahati Ward MCA Grace Mwathi.
Her sentiments were echoed by the society’s chairman, Peter Wanyeki, who added that the fertilisers were available to both members of the society and the general public.
Nakuru County had earlier last week received a shipment of the subsidised fertilisers that are being distributed to its six National Cereals and Produce Board (NCPB) depots as well as satellite stores.
