NACADA Seizes Sh3 Million Worth of Counterfeit Alcohol in Narok

Narok: The National Authority for the Campaign Against Alcohol and Drug Abuse (NACADA) has seized suspected counterfeit alcohol valued at sh3 million during a multi-agency operation in Narok County. Speaking after the successful operation, Simon Mwangi, the Deputy Director of Corporate Affairs at NACADA, said the crackdown was conducted jointly with security agencies, following intelligence from members of the public.

According to Kenya News Agency, over 200 cartons of alcohol were recovered, with preliminary findings indicating that the products bore fake Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) stamps. Mwangi stated that the operation is part of ongoing efforts to protect public health. He urged the public to remain vigilant and report illegal alcohol activities through NACADA’s toll-free numbers.

Mwangi warned revelers to be cautious during the festive season, as unscrupulous traders often exploit the increased demand for alcohol. He emphasized that NACADA will intensify efforts to combat the sale of illicit liquor, ensuring that those involved face legal consequences.

Narok Central Deputy County Commissioner, Kenneth Mwangome, confirmed the seizure, crediting the success to collaboration between government agencies and the public. He thanked residents for their timely information, which led to the recovery of the illicit consignment.

Mwangome advised the public to avoid unverified alcoholic products, warning of the serious health risks posed by counterfeit alcohol. He recommended using the Soma Lebo mobile application to verify the authenticity of KRA codes on alcoholic beverages.

Authorities indicated that investigations are ongoing, and those found responsible will be prosecuted. One individual in possession of the counterfeit alcohol is set to be arraigned in court. Mwangome emphasized that continued cooperation between enforcement agencies and the public is essential to eliminating illegal alcohol trade in the region.
