Garissa: Former Garissa governor Ali Korane has called upon the Muslim community in the North Eastern region to support President William Ruto’s re-election campaign next year, emphasizing the benefits the region has received under his leadership.
According to Kenya News Agency, Korane addressed religious leaders in Garissa town during a meeting where he also promoted his own re-election campaign. He highlighted the significant gains the region has experienced, such as infrastructure development and policy changes, under the current administration. Korane believes it is only fair to support a government that has contributed positively to the region’s development.
Korane, who served as Garissa governor from 2017 to 2022, is aiming for a second term on a United Democratic Party ticket in the upcoming elections. He appealed to the religious leaders to also extend their support to President Ruto, who is seeking a second term.
Korane noted that President Ruto has shown consistent support for the Muslim community by aiding in the construction of madrassas and contributing financially to the building of mosques. He expressed confidence in Ruto’s leadership and reliability.
In addition to seeking political support, Korane urged the religious leaders to address the issue of insecurity in Garissa town. He pointed out that while security agencies are responsible for maintaining peace, the crimes are often committed by local youth known to the community. He encouraged the leaders to condemn criminal activities during their religious services.
