MP Machua Opens New Chief’s Camp in Kiamumbi to Enhance Local Services

Kiamumbi:Kiambu Kiamumbi residents will benefit from improved access to government administrative services following the commissioning of a new chief’s office in Kiambu Town Constituency.

According to Kenya News Agency, the facility, comprising offices and a boardroom, was funded through the Kiambu Town National Government Constituencies Development Fund (NG-CDF) for the 2023/2024 financial year. Chief Antony Mwangi will oversee the operations of this new office.

Speaking at the commissioning event, Kiambu Town MP Machua Waithaka emphasized that the new facility would eliminate the need for residents to travel to Kiambu town to access local administrative services. He noted that services such as national identity card and birth certificate applications would soon be available at the chief’s camp, with relevant officers expected to visit for about a week, dates for which will be announced later.

Assistant County Commissioner Mukami Kariuki, representing the Deputy County Commissioner, praised MP Waithaka for collaborating with the national government to facilitate government programs and projects. She also mentioned plans to hold a public meeting in Kiamumbi to engage residents on their concerns and stressed the importance of education for the youth.

Chief Mwangi highlighted the need for further development due to Kiamumbi’s growing population and expanding settlements. He appealed for support in improving infrastructure, particularly roads and street lighting, to enhance security. Mwangi also encouraged qualified young individuals to prepare for an upcoming recruitment exercise for an assistant chief position.

Residents, including elder Jennifer Mwaniki, expressed gratitude for the new office, recalling the lengthy journeys previously required to access services in Kiambu. Another elder, James Ndung’u Kiama, urged improvements in street lighting, bursary communication, and involvement of local elders in youth training and employment opportunities.

MP Waithaka also announced plans for a new two-kilometre tarmac road, complete with a pedestrian walkway, and encouraged youth enrollment in short technical courses offered through the constituency. The new chief’s camp is expected to bring essential administrative services closer to residents, while planned road improvements and access to technical training aim to address community needs.
