Migori: Migori County Police Commander Joel Kiptum has urged the members of the public and the media to collaborate with the police in making the county a better place. Kiptum emphasized that proper coordination and cooperation among the public, the media, and the police are crucial for eliminating negative vices in society.
According to Kenya News Agency, Kiptum joined police officers from various fields, including the Kenya Forest Service, the Kenya Police, the Administrative Police, and the Directorate of Criminal Investigation Unit (DCI) working in Migori, in celebrating the New Year’s Eve over the weekend. The event, held at the Migori Police Station headquarters, aimed to bring different police forces together to celebrate Christmas and the New Year with their families. Kiptum highlighted the dedication of police officers who were on duty during the festive season, noting that many did not have the opportunity to bond with their families.
The Police Commander also reaffirmed the commitment to the directive by President William Ruto to combat alcohol and drug abuse, cautioning those involved to seek legal business opportunities. During his New Year’s address, President Ruto announced plans to intensify and accelerate measures to curb substance abuse, focusing on prevention, enforcement, and rehabilitation. Kiptum assured that efforts would be made to apprehend and prosecute those trafficking drugs across the Isebania border.
Kiptum called on police officers to set a good example for the public to build trust in the security system. He acknowledged the issue of some officers engaging in unethical behavior, such as drug use, and stressed the importance of maintaining integrity within the force. On security matters, Kiptum expressed the ongoing commitment of security apparatuses to combat negative activities in the county, including cattle theft, possession of illegal firearms, and Female Genital Mutilation (FGM), particularly in the Kuria region.
Kiptum concluded by urging the public to support the police in their law enforcement efforts, emphasizing that the goal is to create a secure and free society. The celebratory function also included members of the public, who had the opportunity to interact with police officers, fostering a better understanding of law enforcement and creating a friendly environment between the community and officers.
