Medical Superintendent Suspended Following Newborn’s Death Allegation

Nairobi: The Mtito Andei Subcounty Hospital Medical Superintendent has been suspended amidst allegations of negligence tied to the death of a newborn during delivery.

According to Kenya News Agency, the Chief Officer in charge of Health, Human Resource Management and Administration, Dr. Harvey Mulei, stated in a signed statement that investigations have been launched to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident. The event took place on Tuesday night when a woman arrived at the hospital to deliver but reportedly was not attended to promptly by the health workers.

Dr. Mulei confirmed the suspension of the doctor to facilitate the investigation process. The Directorate of Criminal Investigations, Nursing Council, and the Doctor’s Council are carrying out the investigations to ascertain the facts of the incident.

The Chief Officer emphasized that the County government is dedicated to maintaining healthcare standards and ensuring accountability within public health facilities.
