Nyamira: Former Interior Cabinet Secretary Dr. Fred Matiang’i has appealed to the residents of Nyamira County to support his presidential bid in the upcoming 2027 elections. Dr. Matiang’i made his intentions known while attending the burial of Joas Abuga Mogeni, the uncle of Senator Okong’o Omogeni, in West Mugirango constituency, Nyamira County.
According to Kenya News Agency, Dr. Matiang’i highlighted his past performance under former President Uhuru Kenyatta as proof of his capability to become Kenya’s 6th President. He emphasized his diligent execution of duties across various departments, which he believes positively impacted the country. Matiang’i asserted that his track record makes him suitable for the presidency.
Dr. Matiang’i also addressed the ongoing economic challenges faced by Kenyans, criticizing the current leadership for its inability to alleviate the high cost of living. He urged the electorate in Nyamira County, particularly those from the three wards holding by-elections on November 27, to support candidates from united opposition parties. He believes such a coalition would bolster his chances in the 2027 presidential race.
He advocated for a change in leadership, expressing confidence that Kenyans are ready for visionary leaders to stabilize the nation’s economy. However, North Mugirango MP Joash Nyamoko expressed his allegiance to supporting a candidate from the UDA party, aligning with his commitment to serving the current government.
The event was attended by various political leaders from the Gusii region, including former Kisii County Senator Prof. Sam Ongeri, current senators Momoima Onyonka and Okong’o Omogeni, as well as MPs Joash Nyamoko and Patrick Osero, alongside national and county-level political aspirants.
