Kikuyu: Kikuyu Municipal Manager Paul Waruhiu has challenged staff to uphold professionalism, integrity, and accountability in the delivery of public services, saying efficient municipal management is critical to improving the quality of life for residents. Speaking during a meeting with Heads of Departments and members of staff at the Kikuyu Municipality offices on Monday, Waruhiu reaffirmed the government’s commitment to providing efficient, responsive, and people-centered services across the municipality.
According to Kenya News Agency, Waruhiu urged officers to embrace teamwork and remain focused on serving residents with dedication while ensuring public resources are utilized prudently. “Our responsibility is to serve the people of Kikuyu with dedication, professionalism, and integrity. Every department has a vital role in ensuring that residents receive timely and quality services. Let us work together to build a cleaner, more efficient, and better-managed municipality,” said Waruhiu.
The Municipal Manager noted that the success of the municipality depends on the commitment of its workforce, adding that collaboration among departments would enhance service delivery and accelerate the implementation of development programmes. Municipalities are established under the Urban Areas and Cities Act to oversee the management and development of urban centers. They are responsible for planning and maintaining urban infrastructure, solid waste management, enforcement of municipal by-laws, environmental conservation, street lighting, drainage systems, public markets, parking management, and beautification of towns, among other services.
Working in collaboration with county governments, municipalities also facilitate orderly urban growth by preparing development plans, promoting investment, improving public amenities, and ensuring that residents access essential services in a sustainable manner. Waruhiu observed that as Kikuyu continues to experience rapid urban growth, there is a greater need for coordinated planning and efficient public service delivery to meet the expectations of residents and investors.
He called on all employees to remain committed to the municipality’s vision of creating a clean, organized, and economically vibrant urban center capable of supporting business growth and improving livelihoods. The meeting also provided an opportunity for departmental heads and staff to deliberate on strategies aimed at enhancing operational efficiency, strengthening accountability, and fostering a culture of teamwork across the municipality.
Kikuyu Municipality has in recent years continued to implement programmes aimed at improving urban infrastructure, environmental management, and public service delivery as part of Kiambu County Government’s broader agenda of promoting sustainable urban development and enhancing residents’ living standards.
