Makueni: The County Government of Makueni has recruited 60 graduates as interns under cohort nine of its internship programme, with each expected to serve for one year in various county departments. Acting Chief Officer in the Department of Education, ICT and Internship, Damaris Makau, stated that the interns were selected from the county’s 30 wards, with two graduates drawn from each ward.
According to Kenya News Agency, Makau spoke during the induction of the interns at the Makueni Integrated Vocational and Education Centre in Wote Town, Makueni Sub-County. The recruits comprise graduates, diploma, and certificate holders who completed courses in fields such as Law, Procurement, Environment, and Engineering Plant Operation. Makau emphasized that the programme aims to equip young people with practical skills and workplace experience, enhancing their preparedness for career opportunities.
She highlighted that the interns would gain hands-on exposure within the county government, developing professional competencies to support their transition into employment career pathways. Makau encouraged the interns to work hard, maintain discipline, and leave a positive mark during their one-year engagement with the county government. She urged them to uphold integrity, patriotism, transparency, and accountability in their respective departments.
The interns are expected to report to their workstations on September 15, 2026. One of the beneficiaries, Fridah Mwanthi, expressed anticipation for gaining professional skills and experience to improve their chances of securing employment. Mwanthi stated, “We expect to learn and grow professionally because we would love to get skills that will help us in getting jobs.”
