Embu:MAFA Academy from Isiolo County and MSF Starlets from Machakos County were victorious in the Safaricom Chapa Dimba Eastern Region soccer finals, clinching the titles in the boys’ and girls’ categories respectively.
According to Kenya News Agency, the finals took place at Moi Stadium in Embu County. MSF Starlets triumphed over the host team, Royal Queens Academy from Embu, with a 3:1 victory to win the girls’ championship. Prior to that, MSF Starlets defeated AIC Sultan Queens from Makueni 1:0 in the semi-finals, while Royal Queens Academy advanced by beating Dakabaricha Secondary from Marsabit 2:1.
In the boys’ final, MAFA Academy delivered a dominant performance, defeating Mkinduri Lockstar from Meru County 8:0. This marked their first Eastern Region championship win. MAFA Academy had previously overwhelmed Mbuthani Secondary School from Makueni 6:1 in the semi-finals, with Mkinduri Lockstar reaching the final after a 2:1 victory over Golden Football from Machakos.
The winners in both categories received a trophy, Sh. 250,000, and smartphones, while the runners-up were awarded a trophy, Sh. 150,000, and smartphones. Individual accolades included prizes of Sh. 30,000 and trophies for the most valuable player, top scorer, and best goalkeeper.
The champions now have the opportunity to represent the Eastern Region at the Safaricom Chapa Dimba Nationals scheduled for early next year. MAFA Academy coach Ibrahim Abdisalan attributed their success to rigorous training, hard work, and dedication. MSF Starlets coach Abednego Ancent expressed his pride in his team’s accomplishment and looks forward to competing for national titles.
Safaricom Sales Manager Martin Chere encouraged young athletes to harness their talents, noting that some players from the finals have attracted interest from major national teams like Harambee Starlets. Safaricom has integrated technology into the tournament to identify standout players using tech-enhanced jerseys.
Chere also highlighted that top-performing teams at the national level will have the chance to travel to Sweden, where they can interact with international players and gain further experience. This initiative aims to expand opportunities for young talent beyond Kenya.
