Machakos Youth Service Graduates to Begin Specialized Training in Vocational Colleges

Machakos: The first cohort of the 1000 Machakos Youth Service (MYS) participants has completed a 21-day training program and is set to proceed to various Vocational Training Colleges (VTCs) for specialized training. The training, which took place at a boot camp, included physical training, discipline, financial literacy, and entrepreneurship, aimed at preparing the youth for their next phase of education.

According to Kenya News Agency, Machakos Governor Wavinya Ndeti, who presided over the pass-out parade at her Whitehouse grounds, emphasized the importance of empowering youth to enhance their competitiveness in the job market. She expressed satisfaction with the program, noting that it fulfilled her vision of equipping idle youth with skills to secure livelihoods.

Governor Ndeti highlighted her goal of eliminating idleness among young people by providing them with the necessary tools to pursue their aspirations. She praised the participants for their cooperation and discipline throughout the training, setting a precedent for future cohorts.

The Governor also mentioned that the program included life-saving techniques, such as first aid and fire emergency response, to prepare the youth for various situations. She encouraged the graduates to serve not only themselves but also Machakos, Kenya, and the world.

The graduates are expected to report to Masii, Kyamutheke, Mitaboni, Kituluni, and Matuu VTCs for their specialized training. Machakos County Commissioner Josephine Ouko commended the program as a development-oriented initiative that fosters discipline and patriotism among the youth.

The event was attended by National Youth Service (NYS) Commandant James Tembur, CECM for Education Consolata Mutisya, Majority Leader Nicholas Nzioka, and other guests.
