Lugari: Security agencies in Lugari Sub County, Kakamega County, have intensified their search for Munyuki Secondary School Principal Simon Isiaho Shange, who went missing on Monday, November 3.
According to Kenya News Agency, the Sub County Police Commander, Robert Kurgat, reported that Shange allegedly vanished mysteriously from an accident scene along the Eldoret-Malaba highway in the early hours of Monday after his car collided with a truck. Kurgat stated that a report of the accident, involving a Toyota Premio and a truck at stage Omega near Lumakanda junction, was filed in the morning. At the time, traffic police were unable to determine who had been driving the car as the driver had disappeared. The vehicle was subsequently towed to Lumakanda police station, initially reported as driven by an unknown person. However, it was later identified as belonging to the missing school principal.
Efforts to locate Shange, coordinated between his family and security agencies, have yet to yield results. Kurgat emphasized that attempts to contact nearby hospitals and other possible locations have thus far been unsuccessful. Additionally, efforts by the Department of Criminal Investigations Officers to track Shange via his phone have been hindered as the device was found to be switched off.
The police commander has urged the public to share any information regarding the principal’s whereabouts and appealed to Shange himself, if alive, to come forward and alleviate the growing concern.
The principal’s wife, Salome Mukuna Shange, echoed the police’s call for information, recounting her experience on the morning of the incident. She reported that a teacher from Munyuki Secondary School called her to inquire about the principal’s whereabouts, leading to the discovery that his vehicle had been involved in an accident and towed to the police station. Mukuna visited the accident scene and spoke to an individual who claimed to have assisted her husband out of the car. However, when the individual returned to check on Shange after speaking with a woman from the truck involved, he found Shange had disappeared. Mukuna stated they have checked all nearby hospitals, including those in Webuye, Turbo, and Eldoret, without locating him.
