Nairobi: Joy and jubilation swept through St. Joseph’s Sino Secondary School in Rachuonyo when the newly elected area MP, Boyd Were, handed a new school bus worth Sh9 million to the community. He also commissioned renovated classrooms in the school at a cost of Sh2.4 million, which were fully funded through the National Government Constituencies Development Fund (NG-CDF).
According to Kenya News Agency, the ecstatic event, termed by residents as a major step forward in the development of local education infrastructure, drew hundreds of constituents, community leaders, and education stakeholders to witness the accomplishment. Speaking during the handover ceremony, the lawmaker said true leadership is measured by its investment in the next generation.
“Investing in education is not merely constructing buildings or purchasing buses; it is laying a firm foundation upon which dreams are nurtured, potentials unlocked, and the future of our community is secured,” the legislator said. He added that investing in schools is planting seeds whose harvest will be seen in a generation that will be knowledgeable, productive, and responsible citizens.
With the launch of the bus, the legislator said he fulfilled a promise made to the community, underlining that he believes every child deserves an environment that inspires learning and academic excellence. He expressed optimism that the delivery of the bus would cut the cost on student transport burden that previously fell directly on parents and guardians.
“Were stressed that improvement of school infrastructure, especially in rural schools, ensured children had similar facilities as their urban counterparts. Together, we are building a legacy that will outlive us,” he said.
