Ndhiwa: Ndhiwa Member of Parliament Martin Owino has condemned rising cases of mob justice in the subcounty, some of which have claimed lives of innocent victims. Owino emphasized the importance of reporting all suspects to the police to ensure justice is served.
According to Kenya News Agency, Owino highlighted a recent tragic incident near Kobodo trading center, where a butcher named Bob Ochieng and his driver, Kevin Odero, were killed. The pair had purchased a cow from a local farmer and were transporting it to Sikewadhi trading center. However, a mob, suspecting them of cattle theft, attacked and killed them before setting their vehicle on fire.
Owino made these remarks on Monday at Malela Village during the 90th birthday celebration for his mother, Margaret Obunga Owino. He stressed the need to end mob justice to prevent further loss of innocent lives and lamented the deaths of the two businessmen, who were contributing to the local economy and supporting their families.
The legislator urged residents to exercise caution before punishing individuals suspected of crimes. He called for the need for substantial evidence against suspects, advocating for suspects to be handed over to the police if crimes are confirmed. Owino emphasized the role of the police in taking legal action and urged the community to stop killing innocent people.
He concluded by encouraging residents to collaborate with police efforts in eradicating crime in the area.
