Nairobi: Political leaders in the Gusii region have extended their condolences to Kisii Senator Richard Onyonka after the passing of his mother, Mama Teresia Nyaboke Omoke. Mama Teresia passed away at the age of 81 while receiving treatment at the Aga Khan University Hospital in Nairobi.
According to Kenya News Agency, Kisii Governor Simba Arati expressed his sympathy to Senator Onyonka and his family, emphasizing Mama Teresia’s role as a pillar of the community. He noted her devotion to family and service, which inspired and uplifted many lives across Kisii. Arati highlighted her embodiment of values such as unity, compassion, and resilience.
Dr. Fred Matiang’i, Jubilee Deputy Party Leader and former Interior Cabinet Secretary, described the loss as profound for the Onyonka family. Dr. Matiang’i had visited Mama Teresia in the hospital, hoping for her recovery. He fondly remembered her warmth and hospitality, particularly during a memorable evening she hosted in December.
Dr. Daniel Manduku, Nyaribari Masaba Member of Parliament, echoed similar sentiments, recognizing Mama Teresia as a source of strength whose love and wisdom will remain in the hearts of those who knew her. Kitutu Chache South MP Antony Kibagendi praised her dedication as a leader in the Catholic Women’s Guild and her active involvement in the Nyabururu community and the Kisii Diocese.
West Mugirango MP Steve Mogaka described Mama Teresia as a remarkable woman whose life was marked by strength, dignity, and commitment to family and community. He offered prayers for comfort and strength for Hon. Onyonka and his family during this difficult time.
