Nyamira: Nyamira Governor, Amos Nyaribo, has flagged off pharmaceutical supplies valued at Sh100 million for distribution across all 116 health facilities in Nyamira County, aiming to facilitate smooth healthcare service delivery in the region. During the flagging-off ceremony held at Nyamira County Referral Hospital (NCRH), Nyaribo acknowledged the Members of the County Assembly (MCAs) for enacting his proposal, the Nyamira County Health Products and Technologies Revolving Fund Act, 2025, which enabled the procurement and distribution of the first batch of medicines and drugs.

According to Kenya News Agency, Nyaribo expressed gratitude to the MCAs for their support in expediting the legislative process, which allowed for timely procurement of medicines. He emphasized the importance of this initiative in ensuring efficient health service delivery to the residents of Nyamira. The Governor also revealed plans to expand the renal unit at Nyamira County Referral Hospital and introduce a new renal unit in Keroka Sub County Hospital to alleviate patient congestion for dialysis services.

Nyaribo further highlighted the county’s efforts in procuring technologically advanced diagnostic medical equipment, such as a Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) machine, to improve service delivery. He noted that this would help residents avoid seeking these services in neighboring counties, given the availability of qualified personnel to operate the equipment once procured.

The Governor announced an additional Sh200 million investment into the drugs fund program to prevent drug shortages in hospitals. He urged managers of the 116 health facilities in the county to utilize the claiming system under SHA for full reimbursement of hospital commodities. Nyaribo also confirmed the establishment of a Revolving Health Products and Technologies Agency Fund to address the persistent drug shortages in county health facilities.

Governor Nyaribo assured Nyamira County residents that drug shortages would be a thing of the past and encouraged those not registered with SHA to do so for access to medical services and drugs through the medical insurance cover. The flagging-off ceremony was attended by county cabinet members, including County Secretary Dr. Jack Magara, hospital employees, and elected and nominated MCAs.
