Nandi Hills:Koitalel Samoei University leadership has praised the government for completing the main campus structure, which had previously stalled under the former administration. This development is seen as a significant boost to the Nandi Hills community.
According to Kenya News Agency, Professor Winstone Akala, the principal of Koitalel Samoei University, highlighted the government’s efforts in supporting the education sector by completing the university structure. The campus is set to be officially commissioned by President William Samoei Ruto on Saturday.
The government has also funded the construction of 1,000-unit hostels to accommodate 10,000 students, ensuring the university can operate without disruptions once classes commence. The completion of the main campus has led to an increase in student enrollment at the Mosoriot Campus, marking a milestone for the institution.
Professor Akala has urged the government to focus on making the university a center for sports science, given Nandi’s reputation for excelling in sports. The university plans to conduct extensive research and learning in this field. The principal also expressed interest in developing a new sports complex, including a gymnasium and an Olympic-standard swimming pool.
Professor Josphat Kipkoech, the university chair, noted that the construction project provided employment for 350 local youths, improving their livelihoods. Augustine Kisorio, chair of the Nandi Kaburwo council of elders, commended the government’s initiative, noting its potential to boost the local economy and allow residents to pursue education while staying in Nandi Hills.
