Kirigiti Primary School Construction Begins, Bringing Education Closer to Residents

Kirigiti:Residents gathered in large numbers to witness the commencement of the Kirigiti Primary School project, marking a significant milestone for the community. This development promises to provide local children with access to formal education within their vicinity.

According to Kenya News Agency, the event was officiated by Deputy President Prof. Kithure Kindiki, who emphasized the collaboration between the national government and local leadership in bringing this project to fruition. For years, Kirigiti had been the only area in Kiambu Constituency without a primary school, forcing children to travel approximately two kilometers to attend neighboring schools.

Deputy President Kindiki highlighted the importance of education as a means to escape poverty and reiterated the government’s commitment to making essential services accessible. “Education is the surest path out of poverty, and no child should have to walk long distances to access it,” he stated during the ceremony.

The State Department for Housing and Urban Planning will oversee the construction as part of its Corporate Social Responsibility program. Area MP Machua Waithaka, credited for his efforts in securing the project, instructed the contractor to prioritize hiring local residents for construction work, aiming to uplift the community economically.

Residents expressed gratitude towards MP Waithaka, acknowledging his persistent efforts that have led to the realization of a long-awaited facility. Mary Kibandi, a local resident, expressed relief and optimism, stating that the new school will alleviate both financial and safety concerns for families.

The community has been urged by local leaders to protect the school and cooperate with the contractor to ensure the project’s timely completion. The establishment of Kirigiti Primary School is expected to boost enrolment as it becomes operational.
