Busia: St. Lukes Kimilili Boys from Bungoma County has defended the regional championship in handball after defeating Butula Boys 10-1 in the just-concluded Western Regional Secondary Schools term 1 games that were held in Busia County on Saturday. Speaking after the win, the School Principal, Innocent Siro, highlighted their target as the East Africa Games and emphasized the importance of nurturing available talents in the region.
According to Kenya News Agency, Moi Girls Kamusinga from Bungoma County emerged as the handball girls champions after defeating Mukumu Girls 27-11. In the playoff match, Lusengeli Secondary from Vihiga County secured the third position by defeating Milima Friends Secondary 21-13.
In Rugby 15’s, Vihiga High School claimed the top spot by defeating St Peters Mumias 3-0 in the final held at Mundika Secondary. Musingu Boys won the playoff match against Bungoma High School with a score of 9-6. Vihiga had previously defeated Musingu 20-0 to secure a place in the final, while St. Peters Mumias triumphed over Bungoma 7-3 in the second semifinal.
Butere Girls retained their championship in basketball by defeating Tigoi Girls from Vihiga County 79-29. Sirakalu Secondary from Bungoma secured third place after winning against Lwanya Girls from Busia 34-31. In the boys’ basketball category, Friends School Kamusinga defeated the defending champions, Sigalame High School from Busia County, with a close score of 46-45. St. Peters Mumias clinched the third position by beating Mukumu Boys 34-25.
In hockey, Tigoi Girls emerged as champions by defeating Muisikhu Girls 1-0, while Nangili Girls from Bungoma County won the playoff against Kingandole from Busia County with the same scoreline. Musingu Boys claimed victory in the boys’ hockey category by beating Friends School Kamusinga 1-0.
The champions in each category secured a place at the National finals, which will be held in Mombasa County next month. At the county level, Bungoma County led the rankings with 884 points, followed by Kakamega County with 505 points. Vihiga County ranked third with 366 points, while Busia County finished last with 346 points.
