Kiambu: Kiambu County has received national recognition for promoting transparency and accountability in public finance after being named the recipient of the County with the Most Comprehensive Finance Act 2025 Award by the International Budget Partnership Kenya, Bajeti Hub.
According to Kenya News Agency, the Award was presented by the Nairobi, Eastern and Central Regional Budget Hub (NEC-Hub) in recognition of the county’s exemplary performance in developing a comprehensive Finance Act and improving public access to budget information. The county officials were also commended for their performance in the County Budget Transparency Survey (CBTS) 2025.
The recognition was received by George Kimani, Chairperson of the County Assembly Finance and Economic Planning Committee and Member of County Assembly (MCA) for Nachu Ward, alongside County Revenue Director Henry Waweru. Also present were members of the Finance Committee and officers from the County Revenue Directorate.
Speaking during the presentation, Rahab Kiranga, NEC-Hub Head of Inclusion and Kiambu County Budget Facilitator, said Kiambu’s achievement reflects its commitment to ensuring residents have access to clear and timely information on how public resources are planned and utilized.
‘Kiambu has made progress in publishing comprehensive budget documents and making them accessible to the public. Such efforts strengthen accountability, build public trust and encourage meaningful participation in decisions that affect the lives of residents,’ said Rahab Kiranga.
She noted that recognizing counties that demonstrate excellence in fiscal transparency motivates them to sustain good governance practices while encouraging others to improve their financial management systems.
During the engagement, the NEC-Hub delegation reviewed the findings of the 2025 County Budget Transparency Survey with county officials, identifying areas for further improvement and discussing strategies to strengthen the county’s performance in future assessments. The organization also reaffirmed its commitment to working with Kiambu to advance budget openness and promote inclusive public participation.
On his part, Kimani welcomed the continued partnership, saying the County Assembly remains committed to ensuring residents play an active role in shaping the county’s financial priorities. ‘We believe people should be at the centre of every budget-making process. Through meaningful public participation, we can develop Finance Acts that respond to the real needs of our communities while strengthening accountability and transparency,’ he said.
The recognition reinforces Kiambu County’s position as one of Kenya’s leading counties in transparent public financial management and reflects the county’s continued efforts to build an open, accountable, and citizen-focused governance system.
