Kevin Wangaya Named SportPesa Player Of The April Month

Nairobi: United Midfielder, Kevin Wangaya, has been named the SportPesa Premier League Player of the Month for April, after a series of stand-out performances that helped his side remain unbeaten during the month.

According to Kenya News Agency, the 20-year-old Kenya U20 international received a customized trophy and a cash prize of Sh50,000 during an award ceremony attended by teammates, coaching staff, and sports officials, including Sports Journalists Association of Kenya (SJAK) President James Waindi.

Wangaya expressed gratitude to his teammates, coaches, and support staff for contributing to his development and motivating him throughout the season. He acknowledged that seeing Humphrey Aroko win the award earlier in the season inspired him to stay focused and work hard, leading to this recognition.

The talented midfielder is now the second-youngest player to win the accolade after Humphrey Aroko of Kariobangi Sharks, who received the award in February at age 17. Wangaya’s impressive performance in April included scoring three goals and providing three assists in five matches. He notably opened the scoring against Mathare United, Posta Rangers, and Mara Sugar, helping Nairobi United take early control in those matches.

One of Wangaya’s standout performances was against Murang’a Seal, where he provided two assists in a match that saw Nairobi United come from 2-0 down to win 4-2. He emphasized the importance of starting strong in matches and contributing to the team’s overall success.

The runners-up for the monthly award were Daniel Ogembo of Police FC, who achieved four clean sheets, and Nairobi United striker Michael Karamor, who scored five goals during the month.

Head Coach Godfrey ‘Solo’ Oduor commended Wangaya’s growth and mentality, expressing confidence in his potential to reach greater heights if he remains consistent and driven.

Nairobi United is now preparing for their upcoming league clash against Kariobangi Sharks, a match expected to feature an exciting showdown between Wangaya and fellow rising star Humphrey Aroko.
