Kenyans Encouraged to Back Major Investments and Projects

Kiriani:Kenyans have been urged to support investors and government development projects as the country seeks to expand economic opportunities through value addition, job creation, and improved infrastructure.

According to Kenya News Agency, Youth Affairs and Sports Principal Secretary Elijah Mwangi highlighted the importance of supporting investments to strengthen the economy by creating employment and opening opportunities for local enterprises. During a development-oriented tour of Kiriani, Mathioya Constituency, Mwangi pointed to the planned Sh2.2 trillion Dangote East Africa Petroleum Refinery in Lamu County as a significant investment expected to contribute to the country’s economic transformation.

The refinery, which had its groundbreaking ceremony in Lamu on September 30, 2026, is planned to have a processing capacity of 700,000 barrels of crude oil per day. It is anticipated to create about 60,000 jobs and stimulate related industries. Mwangi emphasized that such investments could create opportunities across different sectors and called on Kenyans to support efforts aimed at attracting and retaining investors.

Mwangi also highlighted various government interventions, including infrastructural projects, construction of modern markets, affordable housing, and agricultural reforms. He noted that farmers are benefiting from subsidized fertilizer, with investments in solar dryers for coffee factories, road upgrading, and support for coffee, dairy, and tea value chains, which are all helping to strengthen local enterprises.

He reiterated the government’s commitment to delivering its development agenda, emphasizing that the top priority is improving the lives of the people. Mwangi urged continued support for the Kenya Kwanza government to ensure further development.

The PS also discussed government investments in sports infrastructure and talent identification, which are positioning Kenya to host major international sporting events. He mentioned the construction of 33 stadiums, 37 sports academies, and 12 community grounds as transformative for the country’s sports architecture. Additionally, preparations for Kenya’s co-hosting of the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations tournament are underway, with contractors working diligently to complete the required facilities.
