Kenya: The Kenya National Bureau of Statistics (KNBS) is currently conducting the third Kenya Integrated Household Budget Survey across the nation. This extensive exercise began on July 16, 2025, and is scheduled to conclude in July 2026.
According to Kenya News Agency, KNBS enumerators are visiting selected households in various villages to gather data critical for updating the Consumer Price Index and other significant socio-economic indicators such as poverty, inequality, and national accounts. The data collected will be instrumental in measuring, monitoring, and analyzing the progress made in enhancing the population’s living standards.
Kenya has previously conducted household budget surveys in the 2005/2006 and 2015/2016 financial years. The current survey follows the tradition of being conducted every ten years, ensuring that the data remains relevant and up-to-date.
In Busia County, Janet Nyanchama, a KNBS statistician, explained that enumerators are tasked with covering four villages each month, aiming to reach 48 villages over the 12-month period. In Kong’rang’ule village, located in Amagoro, enumerators are expected to complete their data collection within a week. The division of labor among enumerators ensures comprehensive coverage of sampled households.
During a public meeting in Kong’rang’ule village, Nyanchama urged sampled households to cooperate fully and provide accurate data. She emphasized that the information gathered will be kept confidential and used solely for government statistical purposes. Nyanchama stated that the data will offer a comprehensive national overview of household consumption, incomes, and expenditures across Kenya’s 47 counties.
