Lamu:Mlolongo: Mwala MP and UDA National Organising Secretary Vincent Musyoka Kawaya has voiced strong support for the proposed Sh2 trillion Dangote oil refinery in Lamu, urging leaders to back investments that promise job creation and economic strengthening for Kenya.
According to Kenya News Agency, Kawaya, speaking at an economic empowerment event, highlighted the potential benefits of the refinery, which is projected to create up to 60,000 jobs and process 700,000 barrels of oil daily. He emphasized that such a project would spur industrialization, enhance energy security, and drive economic growth in the region.
Kawaya challenged critics concerned with Kenya’s reliance on imported fuel, suggesting that any objections should be addressed through legal channels rather than obstructing the investment. He applauded the Malindi Environment and Land Court’s decision to allow the groundbreaking ceremony to proceed while maintaining the status quo on contested land areas until further hearings.
The MP underscored the project’s alignment with President William Ruto’s industrialization agenda, calling on leaders to support ventures that could generate opportunities for the youth. Machakos Minority Leader Francis Kavyu supported this stance, urging opposition leaders to back efforts promoting the country’s economic transformation.
