Mlolongo:Wiper Party Leader Kalonzo Musyoka has challenged claims that the Opposition is against foreign investment and national development, asserting that they support such investments but demand transparency, due process, and public benefit in major infrastructure projects.
According to Kenya News Agency, Musyoka made these remarks during a press briefing at Mlolongo after visiting Collins Otieno, an abducted activist, at Life Care Hospital. He emphasized the importance of foreign capital for economic growth while insisting that public interest should not be compromised for political or private gains.
Musyoka clarified that the Opposition does not oppose foreign investment in Kenya. Instead, he reiterated their demand for due process and insisted that the benefits of such deals should be extended to all Kenyans rather than enriching only a select few.
The former Vice President highlighted the strategic importance of national assets, such as the Lamu Port-South Sudan-Ethiopia Transport (LAPSSET) Corridor
, which were identified as national priorities in collaboration with former President Mwai Kibaki and former Prime Minister Raila Odinga under Vision 2030.
He warned against secretive agreements involving critical public assets and called for strict compliance with public-private partnership laws, public participation, and transparency in procurement processes. Musyoka stressed that Lamu Port should benefit the entire nation, not just a few individuals.
He urged the government to ensure that local communities and citizens receive tangible benefits from major infrastructure investments, emphasizing that national assets should serve the broader public interest.
