Kakamega: Kakamega County Woman Representative Elsie Muhanda has lauded the role of the church in fostering peace, unity, and social cohesion in Shinyalu Constituency. Speaking during a community event attended by local clergy, youth groups, and residents, Muhanda praised the church for going beyond its spiritual mandate to address real-life challenges affecting families and communities.

According to Kenya News Agency, Muhanda emphasized the church as a foundation for peace and unity in society, highlighting its role in providing guidance, comfort, and direction to the community. She commended the clergy and congregations across Shinyalu for their active participation in promoting togetherness and encouraging hard work.

Muhanda also noted that churches have become safe spaces where residents, especially the youth, are mentored and empowered. She urged religious institutions to continue collaborating with the government to address issues such as unemployment, moral decay, and drug abuse.

Her remarks were welcomed by local church leaders who pledged to strengthen outreach programs and community support services. The residents appreciated the recognition, acknowledging the church’s central role in uniting people during both joyful and challenging times.

“As a community, we draw strength from our faith and each other. We are grateful for leaders who see and support that,” said Rose Nabwire, a local.
