Ithanga: Senior government officials and parastatal heads have called on grassroots leaders to work closely with the current government to ensure accelerated development projects. Speaking during a development-focused public engagement forum in Ithanga, Gatanga Constituency, the leaders dismissed claims by opposition leaders that such public engagements are part of the government’s campaign strategy.
According to Kenya News Agency, such forums provide an opportunity to assess projects already implemented by the government, identify challenges, and interact directly with residents, while also understanding their needs and focusing on priority areas for intervention. Sports PS Elijah Mwangi interacted with Ithanga residents during the forum and emphasized the government’s commitment to development, stating, “Development and improving the lives of our people is the government’s top priority at this time.”
PS Elijah Mwangi urged residents to support leaders working with the government rather than castigating them. He stressed that such support is crucial for the successful follow-up and delivery of promises made. He highlighted a modern market project in Ithanga that is expected to boost the local economy by creating job opportunities and facilitating the distribution of farm produce.
KICC Board Chairperson Samuel Waweru echoed similar sentiments, noting the government’s ongoing efforts to implement development projects nationwide. He encouraged continued cooperation between leaders and the national government to ensure the delivery of these projects.
Furthermore, PS Mwangi provided an update on the country’s preparations to host the AFCON 2027 games. He reported that the Talanta Stadium construction is 80 percent complete, with the Confederation of African Football delegation expressing satisfaction with the progress. Key areas of improvement have been identified, including additional kitchens and media spaces, to ensure readiness for the games.
