Vihiga: Senior secondary schools across the country are set to admit Grade 10 students throughout the week, from Monday to Friday. In an interview with KNA in his office, Vihiga Boys High School Principal Albert Masiolo said that they had already started receiving students as early as 4:30 am, and by 9 am they had already received about 100 students.

According to Kenya News Agency, Principal Masiolo mentioned that while the school had expected 650 students in line with the system, the numbers have dropped to about 500 due to transfer processes. The government has set the school’s capacity at 900 students, and Masiolo urged those in charge of processing approvals to expedite the process to increase student numbers by the end of the week.

The principal emphasized that the school has conducted several meetings with teachers, continuing learners, and staff to prepare for the new students, noting that they are a pioneer cohort. In terms of curriculum readiness, he stated that most teachers have attended retooling sessions, with only a few exceptions.

Vihiga Boys High School offers three educational pathways: STEM, social sciences, arts, and sports. Masiolo confirmed that the STEM pathway includes technical courses such as aviation, electricity, and arts and design.

Masiolo expressed satisfaction that the government had released 50% of the school’s capitation funds and mentioned they were awaiting a circular on the allocation of these funds.
