Nairobi: Governor Ann Waiguru paid tribute in honor of the lives of two senior county staff who died last week. She led the county team in observing a minute of silence during a function at Kamiigua Polytechnic, emphasizing the impact of the loss on the county administration.

According to Kenya News Agency, the county lost the County Executive Committee Member (CECM) for Education and Public Service, Veronica Waweru. Governor Waiguru highlighted Veronica’s service to Kirinyaga County since 2022, when she joined the County Executive as the CECM for Water, Environment, Natural Resources, and Climate Change. Veronica was recognized as a mentor and advocate for community empowerment, working with partners and local leaders on programs benefiting thousands of residents.

Veronica’s notable achievements include securing a Sh40 million grant from Safaricom Foundation for the upgrade of Kibingoti Vocational Training Centre, mobilizing support from NGOs like SHOFCO for free technical training for 145 students, and promoting music and performance programs in educational centers. Before her role in the county, she served as a principal at several girls’ high schools and retired from the Teachers Service Commission.

The county also mourns the loss of John Kiama, Senior Inspector Fire Services in the Department of Transport, Roads, Public Works, and Housing. Known as ‘Shujaa,’ he was a distinguished firefighter and first responder, leading numerous fire suppression operations and community safety programs. His contributions to fire safety awareness through drills and training in schools were well recognized.
