Nandi:Governor Stephen Sang has reaffirmed his administration’s dedication to enhancing early childhood development and education (ECDE) in Nandi County. He emphasized that the county will continue to invest in infrastructure and programs aimed at providing children with a robust foundation for learning.
According to Kenya News Agency, Governor Sang made these remarks while inaugurating a newly constructed Early Childhood Development Education classroom at St Thomas Kapkoros ECDE Centre. He highlighted that early childhood education is a pivotal element of the county’s development agenda, as it lays the groundwork for children’s future educational pursuits.
The county government has prioritized the construction and improvement of ECDE classrooms to ensure young learners have access to safe, modern, and conducive learning environments. Governor Sang stressed that investment in ECDE is not just about erecting buildings but is a long-term investment in the county’s human capital.
He further stated that his administration would continue collaborating with communities to identify areas where ECDE infrastructure is lacking and direct resources to address these deficiencies. Enhanced learning facilities, he noted, would motivate school attendance and provide teachers with an improved environment for teaching.
The county government is also implementing interventions to boost enrolment and retention in ECDE centers, including nutritional programs. These programs are crucial for maintaining children’s attentiveness and participation in learning.
Governor Sang urged parents to ensure all children of ECDE age are enrolled in school, emphasizing the importance of parental involvement in the success of early childhood education. He also encouraged residents to protect new facilities from vandalism.
The county government will continue equipping ECDE centers with appropriate learning materials and furniture to complement infrastructure investments. Sang highlighted the commitment to providing rural children with the same quality of learning environment as those in urban areas, aiming to reduce educational disparities.
The governor underscored the significance of early investment in education for producing a generation equipped with skills necessary for the county’s social and economic development. He urged ECDE teachers to nurture learners beyond academics by fostering social skills, discipline, creativity, and confidence.
Governor Sang assured that education would remain a priority, focusing on strengthening learning foundations from the earliest stage. He called for collaboration among local leaders, teachers, and parents to support ECDE programs, ensuring that county investments lead to improved learning outcomes.
