Bungoma Governor Warns Contractors Over Project Delays

Misikhu:Bungoma Governor Kenneth Lusaka has issued a warning to contractors involved in government projects, emphasizing that delays, poor workmanship, and laxity will not be tolerated and that firms failing to meet contractual obligations will face consequences.

According to Kenya News Agency, Lusaka specifically addressed the contractor responsible for the Misikhu Modern Market project, expressing concern about the slow progress and instructing the firm to expedite the construction to meet the agreed timelines. The governor made these remarks while visiting Misikhu Market with Webuye East MP Martin Wanyonyi and Senator David Wakoli, noting that the project was scheduled for completion by October 9.

Lusaka highlighted that delays in public projects were frustrating residents who were eager to benefit from facilities aimed at improving livelihoods and boosting local economic activity. He emphasized that contractors must deliver projects on time and to the required standards, warning that unnecessary delays could erode public confidence in development programs.

The governor also urged contractors across Bungoma County to strictly adhere to their contractual obligations, accelerate stalled works, and ensure completed facilities meet the required standards. He warned that contractors exhibiting laxity or incompetence risked deregistration for failing to deliver as agreed.

During the visit, Lusaka officiated the opening of the Misikhu Police Station, with leaders assessing development and security infrastructure in the area. Webuye East MP Martin Wanyonyi highlighted the importance of the new facility in enhancing local security and addressing law and order issues. He echoed concerns about the delayed market project, stressing the need for timely and quality delivery.

Bungoma Senator David Wakoli also called for an expedited completion of the market, noting its potential to provide employment opportunities. He urged the governor to facilitate the construction of toilets at the market to ensure proper sanitation.
