Eldoret: Construction of the ultra-modern 64 Market in Eldoret City has reached 50 percent completion, with Governor Jonathan Bii Chelilim assuring traders that stalls will be allocated equitably once the facility is completed. Speaking during a fundraiser in Ngeria over the weekend, Bii said priority would be given to traders displaced when construction began, while the remaining stalls would be distributed fairly among residents from different wards.
According to Kenya News Agency, Bii emphasized that every trader would receive a stall to conduct their businesses, specifying that Ngeria Ward would receive at least 100 stalls. Strategically located in the heart of Eldoret City, the six-storey facility with two basement levels is expected to accommodate more than 4,000 traders, easing congestion and addressing the shortage of trading spaces in the city.
The multi-million-shilling market will feature modern amenities, including internet connectivity, reliable water and electricity supply, washrooms, and rooms for nursing mothers. The facility is expected to improve the trading environment, create employment opportunities, and boost economic activities in Eldoret City upon completion.
The development comes as the County Government opens applications for allocation of trading spaces in five markets that form part of the 64 Market development. Bii stated that the allocation process would prioritize fairness and ensure that traders affected by the redevelopment benefited from the new facility.
The market is expected to provide traders with improved working conditions while contributing to the growth and transformation of Eldoret City into a modern commercial hub.
