Government Extends HMIS Migration Deadline to November 30

Nairobi:The Ministry of Health has extended the deadline for healthcare facilities to migrate to Digital Health Agency (DHA)-certified Health Management Information Systems (HMIS) to November 30, 2026. This decision was made following requests from healthcare providers for additional time to complete the transition.

According to Kenya News Agency, the extension allows facilities that have not yet migrated from the Social Health Authority (SHA) Provider Portal to certified systems an extra month to do so. The decision was announced in a statement signed by Health Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale, citing consultations with SHA and DHA, progress made, and requests from healthcare providers as reasons for the extension.

The Ministry reported that all 6,427 public health facilities in Levels 2 to 4 have successfully migrated to the new systems, achieving 100 percent compliance. However, only 22 out of the 28 public Level 5 facilities have completed the transition, which represents 79 percent. Additionally, 190 of the 518 faith-based health facilities have migrated, accounting for 37 percent, and 371 private health facilities have also successfully transitioned.

The Ministry has warned that the SHA Provider Portal will be deactivated on November 30, 2026. Facilities that do not meet the migration deadline risk disruptions in service verification, pre-authorisation, and claims submission and processing. The transition aims to ensure healthcare providers operate through DHA-certified systems.

To assist facilities, the Digital Health Agency continues to offer technical support, including system onboarding, integration, troubleshooting, user training, and coordination with HMIS vendors. Facilities needing assistance are encouraged to contact the agency via its helpdesk email or the toll-free number provided.

The Health Cabinet Secretary has clarified that claims already submitted through the SHA Provider Portal will be processed as per the applicable requirements. Healthcare providers yet to complete the migration are urged to use the additional time to finalize the transition and avoid service interruptions to SHA beneficiaries.
