Makueni: The Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock Development has donated 40,000 lemon seedlings to farmers in Makueni County to boost citrus farming and improve the livelihoods of local residents.
According to Kenya News Agency, the assorted seedlings will be distributed across 10 sub-counties in the region, including Makueni, Kathozweni, Kilungu, Mbooni East, Mbooni West, Kambu, Mukaa, Nzaui, Makindu, and Kibwezi, each receiving 4,000 seedlings. The initiative aims to support farmers in diversifying their crops and enhance food security and income generation through commercial citrus farming, as stated by Makueni County Procurement Officer Josphat Musila during the distribution event at the County Commissioner’s office.
The seedlings were supplied by Ozone Freight Forwarders, who secured the contract from the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock Development through a framework agreement for the 2025/2026 and 2026/2027 financial years.
