Government Brings Services Closer with Mlima Huduma Mashinani Initiative

Kathwana:Tharaka-Nithi Residents of Tharaka-Nithi were able to access services and information from numerous government agencies during the Mlima Huduma Mashinani initiative held at Kathwana Stadium. This effort aims to bring public services closer to citizens and improve service delivery at the grassroots level.

According to Kenya News Agency, the initiative was organized by the Mt Kenya Caucus and gathered directors and department heads from the Mountain region. They aimed to educate residents about government programs and facilitate access to services without the need to travel to various government offices.

Participating institutions included the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA), National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA), Affordable Housing Programme, National Police Service, Access to Government Procurement Opportunities (AGPO), Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS), Kenya Bureau of Standards (KEBS), Anti-Counterfeit Authority, Ministry of Health, and Ministry of Agriculture. These agencies provided information about their mandates and guided residents on accessing public services, including police abstracts and other governmental initiatives.

Secretary to the Cabinet Mercy Wanjau, the chief guest at the event, praised the government’s efforts to make services more accessible to citizens. She encouraged residents to support initiatives aimed at improving access to public services and development programs. Wanjau highlighted the government’s visible development record and stressed the importance of continued cooperation between citizens and government institutions.

Principal Secretary for Diaspora Affairs Roselyn Njogu urged young people in Tharaka-Nithi to explore overseas employment opportunities through recognized and legal recruitment channels. She noted that about 5,500 people from Tharaka-Nithi were working abroad and mentioned plans for the Kazi Majuu program to conduct a sensitization exercise in the county next month. Njogu encouraged young people to participate in large numbers to learn about available jobs and the requirements for securing employment abroad.

Njogu also called on residents to support the government under President William Ruto and Deputy President Kithure Kindiki, stating that continued support would enable them to benefit from government programs.

The event was hosted by Principal Secretary for Blue Economy and Fisheries Betsy Njagi and attended by Igambang’ombe MP Patrick Munene, along with other leaders and representatives of government institutions. The forum provided residents an opportunity to interact directly with government officials, seek assistance, and obtain information on services available through the participating agencies.

The Mlima Huduma Mashinani initiative aims to promote equitable access to public services by bringing government institutions closer to communities, particularly for residents facing challenges in traveling to offices for assistance.
