Gichugu MP Urges Health Ministry to Issue Ebola Guidelines for Schools

Gichugu:Gichugu MP Gichimu Githinji has urged the Ministry of Health to promptly issue detailed health guidelines to schools following the confirmation of Kenya’s first Ebola case.

According to Kenya News Agency, the MP emphasized the need for clear protocols on disease prevention, identification of suspected cases, and reporting procedures in schools while speaking at Gachatha Primary School in Kirinyaga East Sub County. He was there to commission 18 renovated classrooms funded by the National Government Constituencies Development Fund.

Githinji stressed that teachers should be provided with directives to educate learners on disease prevention and ensure adherence to health protocols within schools. He noted the importance of preparedness due to the high number of daily interactions among learners, teachers, and support staff.

He highlighted the necessity for the guidelines to prevent panic while ensuring schools are prepared to respond effectively should a suspected case arise. Gichinji also reassured residents of ongoing plans to renovate more schools in the constituency and called on the Ministry of Education to address delays in disbursing school capitation funds to aid school operations and management.
