Nyandarua: At least 300 residents of Jina sub location in Gem constituency received a donation of reading glasses from a German top tier football club, Borussia Dortmund. The donation from the Bundesliga club were offered at no cost during a medical outreach programme organized by the Geno Community Development Initiative (GCDI) and Marenyo health centre at St. Zakaria Catholic Church, Jina sub parish.
According to Kenya News Agency, GCDI Chief Executive Officer, Enos Odera, highlighted that the medical check-up and outreach mission was part of the organisation’s efforts to provide quality health care services to the less privileged residents. Odera stated that members of the public were able to access a wide range of free medical services that included eye screening, HIV/AIDS counselling and testing, reproductive health, Social Health Authority (SHA) registration, and many other services during the one-day event.
The area medical officer of health, Dr. Steve Orao, praised GCDI for the initiative, emphasizing that outreach programmes brought services closer to the people, thus enabling health care providers to deliver services to the hard-to-reach population. ‘Quite a number of people do not attend ante-natal clinics or bring their children for immunizations and outreach programs like this one helps to bridge the gap,’ remarked Dr. Orao.
A board member of GCDI, Job Akuno, expressed the organization’s commitment to its broader mission of transforming lives through programs that address issues affecting women and adolescent girls. The beneficiaries who turned out in large numbers thanked the organisation for the services and called for more of such initiatives.
